The Best Breakfast for Athletes

Find out what the best athletes have for breakfast!

Have the breakfast of a king, the lunch of a prince, and the dinner of a pauper. You’ve surely heard this saying countless times. It’s a common conception that the most important meal of the day is the first. Breakfast is when we get most of the energy we are going to need throughout the day. That is why many doctors and nutritionists recommend having a full breakfast packed with all the energy and nutrients to face the day ahead. This is especially true for those of us that during the day engage in physical activities such as running or riding a bike. People that exercise need a little extra kick on their first meal of the day. Their breakfast must have enough proteins, fiber, vitamins, and minerals for their bodies to be able to withstand all the activity.

So whether you enjoy running, jogging, hiking, or simply going to the gym here are a few ideas of what your breakfast should contain to give you that extra boost your body needs. A great idea to start your day is oatmeal. It’s one of the most complete options and there are lots of ways to spice it up. Oatmeal contains lots of proteins, fiber, and light carbohydrates that are actually good for you. A great way to add some flavor to the mix is with almond milk, bananas, and fresh berries. A pinch of cinnamon is also a great way to spice it up. Another thing that many athletes do is adding some zing to their oatmeal by mixing it with protein powder or chugging it down with a protein shake or a smoothie.

Eggs are also a terrific breakfast choice. A couple of eggs with some whole wheat bread and yogurt will give you all the energy you need during the day. Boiled, scrambled, or sunny side up, there are plenty of options with eggs and lots of things to add to it. There are a lot of natural herbs that you can add to your morning eggs to spike up the flavor. You can add mushrooms, basil, parsley, maybe some turkey ham or even some cheese.

Who doesn’t love a good pancake? Protein pancakes are also a good option. You can use oatmeal instead of regular flour to get a low carb pancake with lots of extra protein and fiber. You can accompany them with some yogurt or some fruits like strawberries, blueberries, or bananas. You might want to stay clear of maple syrup as it contains way too much processed sugar that are hard to burn. Give these ideas a chance and see how you can mix things up to have the best breakfast you can have.
