Setting up Your Jogging Routine

So you want to take up jogging? Great! It’s a wonderful way to stay in shape and burn those extra calories we all love to eat. There are plenty of medical studies that prove that running for at least 30 minutes two or three times a week can be greatly beneficial to your health. It improves blood circulation, reduces cholesterol, and can even help expand your life expectancy.
Jogging is great and all but like with most physical activities it takes a while to get used to it and really make a habit of it. Among runners there’s this thing they call “beginner’s hump”, it refers to the time it takes for a person starting to jog regularly to stop feeling like they’re going up a hill and finally get hooked on it.
For most people this hump lasts for six to eight weeks. Yes, it may sounds like a long time and it is quite common for people to quit before they manage to get over it. There is a reason why it is called a hump or why it feels like a hill. But this is completely normal, especially if you’re not accustomed to regular physical exercise. It will take your body some time to get used to the stress you’re putting it through.
There are two things that are sure to help you get over this hump and they are willpower and creating a schedule or routine and sticking to it. Willpower is something that has to come from you. Sadly there is little we can do to in that area save for some encouraging words like “You can do it!”, “You go, champ!”, or at the risk of sounding like a kitten in a poster “Hang in there!”. On the other hand, we can certainly help you with creating a schedule.
Making up a schedule is not that hard, the trick is sticking to it. What you really want to go for is persistence. You’ll be tempted to quit more than once. The first thing you need to figure out is how many times a week you want to jog. Depending on your physical condition you might want to settle for two to three times a week, especially if you’re new to this.
The next step is deciding on a time of the day. That’s completely up to you. Ponder your choices and consider what time of the day suits you best. Maybe you’re a morning person and you can go out at 6 o’clock then great! If it doesn’t clash with your daily routine then you’re fine. Maybe the evenings or nights are better for you. You don’t want your jogging to stand in the way of your other daily tasks.
Once you’re set with how many times a week and the time of the day then all you need to do is stick to it. Mark the days and times in a calendar or make set up reminders in your smartphone in order to help you remember. Do whatever you need to do to keep you on track.
